Quick Check

Have you specified:

Task
Goal
Form
Grading
Audience
Source
Collaboration requirements
Due date
Criteria length
Penalties for lateness
Requirements for keeping writing process materials and backing up
Computer files/whether I will accept emailed assignments

The number one mistake students make on an assignment is mistaking audience. They believe the audience to be the professor, who does not need much explained. Specify the audience you have in mind-classmates? A wonderful exercise is to ask students to write something for one audience and then re-write it for another, or change form/mode but use the same idea or material.

Share evaluation criteria: you can even hand out one of our grading rubrics.
